Michael Aresco '68 - New Big East Commissioner
August 14, 2012: This afternoon the News & Sports outlets were abuzz with the impending official announcement that Michael Aresco (Xavier Class of 1968) has been hired as the new Commissioner of the Big East.

"PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Mike Aresco, Executive Vice President, Programming of CBS Sports, has been named Commissioner of The BIG EAST Conference. The appointment was made by a unanimous vote of the league’s Presidents. Aresco will assume Commissioner’s duties in early September." Photo and full story are on that website.

"The Big East Conference has hired CBS Sports executive vice president Mike Aresco as its new commissioner, Greg Williams, University of Cincinnati president and chair of the commissioner search committee, announced Tuesday."
While at Xavier, (1968 yearbook photos below) Mike was involved in a wide variety of activities that have probably been useful in his career. He was a member of the Kestrel (student newspaper) from his sophomore to senior years;Baseball and Debating were important activities as a junior an senior, as well as being a member of the National Honor Society and X-Men. He played intramural basketball all 4 years and won the Poetry award as a sophomore. Some of Mike's other activities included Bowing, Sodality and Drama Club.
Director of Advancement Matt Strekel `99 sent off a quick congratulations, "I am very pleased to hear that you have been named Commissioner of the Big East Conference! I have no doubt that the lessons learned here at Xavier will carry you to much success within the Conference. We are all very excited for your appointment."
