Amari Visits Home

Amari with coaches Marinan and BischoffMarch 4, 2010: We were all pleased to have a visit from Alumnus Amari Spievey today while he was in town visiting his family. During his visit to Middletown, he stopped by the school and visited with Director of Athletics Tony Jaskot, football coaches Sean Marinan and Paul Bischoff, basketball coach Mike Kohs as well as some of his former teachers. He seemed genuinely surprised when a number of students and others requested his autograph.

Amari with coach KohsAs a junior Cornerback with the Iowa Hawkeyes, Amari Spievey (Xavier class of 2006) was ranked among the top defensive backs in the country. Amari has opted to forego his senior year at Iowa and enter the NFL draft.

Since this past fall, Amari Spievey’s football jersey, signed by the players and coaches of Xavier’s 2005 State Championship Football team now hangs proudly in the Arthur M. Kohs Gymnasium along with Xavier’s championship banners.

Amari was named the Most Valuable Offensive Player on the Falcon's 2005 CT State Championship team and was also the Connecticut Player of the Year. He was also a member of our Basketball team that was ranked # 3 in the State by the Hartford Courant and finished in his senior season with an 18 – 7 record.
