Recycling Correctly For Free
March 8, 2011: Student members of the Stewards of Creation Club demonstrated another of their "green" initiatives when they recycled scores of technology items on Saturday. The obsession with technology and computers has caused a major problem for landfills around the country. Technology becomes outdated so quickly or is considered disposable and people just don't seem to know what to do with computers, monitors, and electronics of all types.
The Stewards of Creation were able to gather:
- 25 old computer monitors
- 5 old laptops
- 5 old computer towers
- 2 old fax machines
- 1 old air conditioner
- 40 old ink cartridges
- 2 boxes of old batteries
Homes and businesses are piling up those same types of items every year. What are we supposed to do with them?
"Locally, we found a business that will take all these items without any charge to home users or businesses" said club moderator Mrs. Andrea Hoisl. The Computer Works in Cromwell, CT (TheComputerRecycler.com
) accepts items on Thursdays from 1pm to 5pm and Saturdays from 10am to 2 pm. On their website, they explain their service and list over 75 items that the will accept for recycling.
The Stewards of Creation meets after school once a week focusing on recycling and environmental issues as they immediately affect our community. The club focuses on raising awareness that we are all called to care for creation as it was gifted to us by God. The club will participate in projects and apply for grants to help fund its efforts within the Xavier community. All are welcome!
