Counseling and Advising
The Guidance Department, the Religion Department, the administration and the faculty carry out the counseling and advising programs.
The Guidance Department consists of Mr. Richard Magner, director, Mrs. Joan Tomasiello, Mr. Mark Lambert and Mr. James Collins. Each counselor is responsible for a quarter of the student body. He or she follows from freshmen year through graduation. Counselors provide adjustment and academic counseling as well as college placement, career choices, and other post-graduate pursuits.
In addition to maintaining student's permanent records, the guidance department administers the Preliminary Scholastic Assessment Test (PSAT) the SAT , and finally SAT Subject Tests.
Throughout the school year, the department holds a number of programs for students and parents to provide them with academic information as well as college and financial aid planning. The Guidance Department utilizes Naviance, a web based college and career search program to aid in the college selection and application process. www.connection.naviance.com/xavierct Guidance is in the process of rolling out Naviance to include all four grades by spring of 2013.
