Course Description

This full year course in Spanish is designed for the serious language student who wishes to refine his skills in the target language. These language skills will include written and spoken Spanish, listening and reading comprehension, and pronunciation. Students review and complete their study of Spanish grammar, mastering the various verb tenses and structures used in classical written forms of the language. Students also will learn contemporary vocabulary enabling them to communicate in real and contemporary situations. In addition, students will read and study a well-known literary work in the target language.

 Course Goals

By conclusion of this academic year, students will:

  •                  Have completed units 1 through 6 of the course textbook.
  •                  Write in the target language using proper grammar, form and structure.
  •                  Refine their pronunciation skills in the target language.
  •                  Read in the target language works in contemporary forms
  •                  Write in the target language using proper grammar, form and structure
  •                  Feel knowledgeable of Hispanic culture and heritage.
  •                  Appreciate the value of language study in today’s society and global community.
  •                  Speak with ease in the target language and communicate using proper grammar and form, as well as contemporary vocabulary.
  •                  Feel knowledgeable of Hispanic culture and heritage.
  •                  Be prepared for language study on the college level.
  •                  Speak of their knowledge of the Spanish theatre, film and culture as well as many societal aspects of life.





Rules, Procedures and Expectations for Spanish Class

1.Come to class prepared with textbook, workbooks, notebook and something to write with. 


2.  Respect the learning environment and others.


3. Be in your seat when the bell rings and stay there until you are dismissed.


4.Listen to directions and/or instructions the first time they are given.



  • Students will keep a notebook in a three ring binder divided into three sections, notes, classwork and homework.


  • Each day begins with a warm up activity which is to be done in the notebook when appropriate.


  • Wrap up activities will be done at the end of class and are to be included in the notebook when appropriate.


  • Check my website daily for the palabra del día and other helpful information related to the textbooks and useful websites.


  • Ask to use the restroom (in Spanish) before class starts or at another appropriate time that does not to disturb the class. 


  • Students are expected to participate daily in the class discussions and reviews.   Students should expect to be called on at least once a class period.


  • For paired and group activities students will be assigned a partner(s) as required for the activity in the beginning of each quarter.


  • Class will be conducted in Spanish


  • Assessment: My grading system is based on points.  Students will have one quiz per week on grammar and/or vocabulary concepts we have completed.  A test will be given at the end of each chapter.  Students will be also assessed on speaking ability.  Notebooks will be collected at the end of each quarter and are worth 50 points.





Homework is to be done in its’ entirety every night it is assigned.  If a student completes all of his homework he will have 3 points added onto his final average.  Each student is given one free homework pass per quarter; if the freebie is used 2 points will be added onto his final average.  After using his freebie, a point is taken off the final average for each missing homework assignment.  You can make up homework one day late for half credit.
