Alumni Events

2019-2020 EVENTS:

Sept. 8: Grandparents Mass was held at Xavier with hundreds in attendance as the newly renovated gym was filled. There was a reception in the dining hall after Mass.

Sept. 13: The Xavier Alumni Golf Classic, at Portland Golf Course, was another huge success: a full field, a beautiful day for golf and much generosity among the alumni. The event raised about $73,000 , and that money goes to financial aid. The tournament was dedicated to longtime teacher/coach/administrator Bill McKenna, who died in December 2018. His son Bill is picture below with his mother, Pat.

Sept. 25: The Ad Drive kicked off. The “Students Helping Students” ad book is a special student project that provides financial support for young men who would not otherwise be able to attend Xavier. Students sell all of the ads in the directory. This year's goal is $100,000, and that figure was realized last year.

Oct. 4-6: Xavier's Class of 1969 50th Reunion was held with various festivities, including a reception Friday night hosted by Mark Masselli at the Community Health Center in Middletown; the Homecoming football game, prayer service for deceased members of the class, and a dinner on Saturday ; and a Sunday brunch.

Oct. 5: The Homecoming Postgame Football Reception in the music suite was a happy event. Xavier soundly defeated Hamden, 42-14, at Larry McHugh Field in the Homecoming Game.

Nov. 29: Mercy/Xavier Class of 1984 had a 35th Reunion.

Nov. 30: A Thanksgiving Mass was held at the school.

Nov. 30: Mercy/Xavier Class of 2009 had its 10th Reunion.

Dec. 5: SFX & Heritage Society reception was held at the Griswold Inn in Essex.

Dec. 26-27: The annual Arthur Kohs Basketball tournament was here at Xavier. Kohs was Xavier’s first basketball coach and first athletic director. The gym is named after him. During its recent renovation, the words "Arthur M. Kohs Gymnasium" were painted in black on each side of the floor. Kohs was present for the rededication of the gym in July. Xavier won this holiday tournament, beating Glastonbury in the championship game. It was victory No. 300 for coach Mike Kohs, Artie's son. The leading scorer for Xavier with 13 points was Mike's son Stephen.

March 28: The annual Xavier Black & White Auction, which is organized by the Home & School Association.
