We honor a special team on May, 5, 2019 with a special championship brunch at Power Ridge in Middlefield!
It all starts at 10:30 a.m.!
It had been 20 years.
The iPhone. The Avengers. Netflix. Uber. Instagram. Selfies.
The Class of 2019.
They all didn't exist the last time the Xavier indoor track and field team had last won a state title. But this year, a small, but dedicated group of athletes, committed to one incredibly daunting goal: ending the longest postseason championship drought in program history. And on a Friday night in February in the Elm city, they put their plan into motion.
Built not on one superstar, but as a team centered around its senior leaders and a pack of hungry underclassmen, the Falcons went to work at the Floyd Little Athletic Center.
One by one, the team of 11 athletes took points in the shot put, the 4x800, the SMR, the 1000, the 1600 and the 3200.
11 athletes. 11 scorers. 64 points.
When the 4x400-meter relay had finally finished, the job was done.
Xavier was back on top. The championship was coming home again.
When we look at the win now it was the very definition of a team victory. Together, this group of personalities, which included a mix of cross country talent and a diverse group of athletes from other teams, came together at exactly the right time.
Driven by a bigger goal. Inspired by their teammates.
For a program that had struggled to reclaim its glory from another era, it was a game-changer. And maybe most importantly, a blueprint for the future.
When you get a core group of focused and talented athletes looking for their chance at history, something special is always possible.
The title gave Xavier its 19th indoor championship in program history.
On Sunday, May 5th, 2019, we celebrate this season and historic victory at Powder Ridge Ski Lodge with a special Brunch. We will be giving out awards, honoring the men who helped make this happen and celebrate a team worthy of remembrance.
