The last Mass of the school year -- Ascension Thursday Mass – was celebrated as the Xavier community commemorated Jesus Christ's ascension into heaven 40 days after the resurrection.
Father Scott Surrency was the celebrant on a day that Xavier commissioned 26 peer ministers for the 2019-2020 school year.
Father Scott prayed a blessing for the Xavier students, in part saying, "As servant leaders, you will often be called upon to put the needs of others ahead of your own; May God grant you the humility to serve as Jesus did."
The 26 peer ministers: Sam Baker, Nathan Barandon, Luke Bassett, Hogan Beatty, Michael Bevilacqua, Zach Ciampi, Nich Dighello, Quinn Forrester, Mark Grasso, Alex Inglis, Sean Kelly, Ethan Kerr, Will Lallier, Justin Lanzuela, Sean Mahon, Sam Martin, Shane Mendez, Antonio Milardo, Terrence O'Brien, Kaden Powers, Will St. Pierre, Ryan Suprin, Luke Tischio, Max Tomaiuolo, Carson Waldron, and Jack Weinheimer.
Also recognized at the Mass was Anthony Caruso, who graduated on Saturday and will attend Providence College and Our Lady of Providence Seminary. He will study philosophy at Providence while doing his spiritual formation at the seminary as he prepares to become a priest of the Archdiocese of Hartford. Caruso, who had already received many awards and accolades at Xavier, was given the Pro-Life Leadership Award. He was president of the club as a junior and senior.
