The 27th annual Middletown Sports Hall of Fame induction dinner, which has a strong Xavier flavor, will now be held at the Elks Club at 44 Maynard St., Middletown.
The venue for the Jan. 23 event was moved because of the closure Friday of the Red Lion Hotel in Cromwell.

The 2020 class: Chris Brown, Mike Fiala, Jim Foley, Hal Guy, Sandy Hoffman, Tony Pulino, Marty Ryczek, Frank Shekosky, Maggie Smith, and Amari Spievey. The undefeated 1969 Wesleyan University football team and the 1980 Xavier High School baseball team also will be honored.
The Xavier connections:
CHRIS BROWN '96: An All-State thrower at Xavier who was a two-time All-American at Purdue.
MIKE FIALA '80: Played on Xavier's championship baseball team, went to Princeton, drafted in the 11th round in 1985 by the Dodgers, pitching two years in their system.
JIM FOLEY '88: As a sophomore set up the Falcons' top scorer, Baseball Hall of Famer Jeff Bagwell. Foley played at Stetson, finishing as Xavier's all-time leading scorer.
MARTY RYCZEK: Coached Foley and Bagwell in soccer at Xavier and now is the athletic director at Nathan Hale Ray High School in Moodus.
AMARI SPIEVEY '06: Drafted out of Iowa in the third round of the 2010 NFL draft by the Lions; started for two seasons. Two-time All-State player helped lead Xavier to 2005 football title.
THE 1980 BASEBALL TEAM: Only Xavier baseball team to win a state title; went 15-5 in the regular season and won four state playoff games for the Class L title.
