With the spring season having multiple events each day and some teams competing as many as three times per week, we'll provide a weekly recap on Fridays.


Xavier lost 3-0 to Lyman Hall on Tuesday at Palmer Field as Colin Blake went the distance, allowing only five hits to the Falcons. Xavier then bounced back Wednesday on the road with a 6-5 victory over SCC rival Fairfield Prep. The Falcons got back to .500 (5-5) as Tyler Lappe had a hit and two RBI, Nick DeBrizzi doubled and scored, and Brendan Donohue got the win in relief. Playing their third game in three days, this one moved up a day because of Friday's rain, the Falcons beat West Haven 7-4 as Brendan Lenehan threw a complete game to pick up the win at Palmer Field.


Xavier defeated Cheshire 164-186 on Tuesday to move to 4-1 on the season. Kevin Lynch and Patrick Kennedy each shot a 38 at Portland Golf Club to lead the Falcons. Ryan Holgerson had a 42, and PJ Cavaliere and Eric Folta each shot 44.


Xavier beat Hall of West Hartford 12-6 Monday, its sixth win in a row, as JJ Ford scored six times. Erik Fellenstein and Quinn Zdrojeski each had two goals. The Falcons then lost 19-3 to Fairfield Prep on Wednesday.


A tri-meet was hosted Thursday on Long Island Sound/New Haven Harbor by the Sound School. Winds were from the South around 5 knots and then built to 10 knots. Xavier defeated Sound School 2-0, and Hand also beat Sound School by the same score.


Xavier defeated Amity 3-2 (23-25, 25-13, 25-22, 20-25, 15-11) on Monday for its second win of the season. The Falcons were led by Ethan Powers (2 aces, 29 kills, 10 digs;), Kevin Monaghan (5 kills, 49 assists), Shreyas Vasireddy (3 aces, 46 digs), and Will Eydman (3 aces, 13 kills, 6 digs). The Falcons lost 3-1 to a tough Joel Barlow team Wednesday (27-25, 16-25, 21-25, 17-25). Powers, Monaghan, Will Eydman and Boti Fogarasi led Xavier. The Falcons also lost Thursday, 3-1 to Hand (18-25, 25-21, 17-25, 23-25). Vasireddy had 28 digs and Monghan 33 assists.


Xavier beat Branford 6-1 Tuesday. The Falcons swept the singles matches (Matt Fuffo, Khai Ton, Eddie Basauri, and Garrett Liska) and won two doubles matches (Sam Zhao and Jackson Sokolowski at No. 1 and Alex Bonaiuto and Zach Ciampi at No. 2). On Thursday Xavier improved to 6-3 with a 7-0 win over Lyman Hall. In singles, Fuffo, Ton, Basauri and Liska each won 6-0, 6-0.


With legendary Xavier track and cross country coach Robert Michalski watching and some of the best of runners in the state competing, Robbie Cozean '20 capped off a memorable second annual Connecticut Distance Festival last Friday by winning the Robert Michalski championship 5,000-meter race. Cozean ran 14:40.40 to beat Hall's Trey Cormier and Manchester's Adian Puffer, a freshman. It was the first time three Connecticut high school runners had each run under 14:50 in the same race on Connecticut soil.


Xavier improved to 8-4 Wednesday with a 15-4 victory as Christian Schaefer had five points and Kevin Dardick four assists.
