The spring season in Connecticut is extremely busy. It is a condensed time frame, with weather issues often creating headaches for athletics directors and coaches. Teams have multiple games each week, so we'll catch you up on Xavier in the past week.


Xavier beat Lyman Hall 3-1 Monday on the road and then defeated West Haven 8-4 in eight innings Wednesday night as Tyler Lappe had the game-tying RBI in the sixth inning and then the game-winning RBI in the eighth. The win on the road gave Xavier an 8-7 record, and the Falcons have qualified for the state tournament.


Xavier won the Wildcat Invitational hosted by NFA at Norwich GC on Monday as Chris Fosdick was the medalist for the third year in a row. He shot a 2-under 69. The Falcons had a 307 total with Kevin Lynch shooting a 74. East Lyme was second at 326. It was Xavier's third straight win in the event. .... On Tuesday the team was second in the Bishop Hendricken Invitational at Agawam Hunt CC in Rumford, R.I. Fosdick was the medalist with a 66. Xavier had a 311, six behind The Wheeler School's 305. ... On Wednesday Hand beat Xavier by three strokes at Portland GC. Matt Doyle of Hand had a 33 for medalist honors, one stroke better than Fosdick.


Guilford beat Xavier 14-10 Tuesday. The Falcons were down by seven through three quarters but kept the pressure on in the fourth. ... The Falcons bounced back with an 11-4 victory over Cheshire Wednesday. The lacrosse team will be in the postseason.


The Sound School hosted a meet this week with Xavier and Hand attending. Winds were from the Southwest at 8 to 12 knots in New Haven Harbor. Xavier and Hand each beat the Sound School 2-0.


Hand beat Xavier 5-2 Monday, Fairfield Prep defeated the Falcons 6-1 Tuesday, and Guilford edged Xavier 4-3 on Wednesday. The Falcons bounced back with a 7-0 victory over North Haven Thursday to qualify for the state tournament.


Xavier competed in the Middletown Invitational last weekend and left with 16 personal records.


On Tuesday Xavier Ultimate lost 15-5 to Middletown. The Falcons beat Watkinson Thursday night 11-2 in the first round of the state tournament.


On Tuesday Joel Barlow beat Xavier 3-1 (19-25, 31-29, 15-25, 11-25) to improve to 14-1. Xavier was led by Monaghan and Vasireddy. ... Oxford defeated Xavier 3-1 (25-19, 18-25, 13-25, 14-25) on Wednesday. Ethan Powers, Kevin Monaghan and Shreyas Vasireddy led Xavier.
