Next fall, the Diocese of Norwich will host the 16th Annual Seton Scholarship Dinner. The event honors educators who exemplify the spirit and legacy of Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton, a pioneer in American Catholic education and the patron saint of Catholic schools.
The dinner, named in her honor, celebrates those who continue her mission of providing students with a strong academic foundation rooted in faith, character, and service. Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton was born on August 28, 1774, and after converting to Catholicism, became the founder of the Sisters of Charity in 1809 and established the nation’s first all girls Catholic school in Emmitsburg, Maryland. In 1974, she was canonized by Pope Paul the Sixth, becoming the first person born in the United States to be declared a saint.
This year, Xavier High School is proud to share that Associate President Mr. Andrew Gargano will be recognized as one of three distinguished honorees.
For more than 28 years, Mr. Gargano has a valued member of the Xavier community.
Through nearly three decades of service at Xavier High School, he has given far more than his time and talent, he has given of himself. Generations of students have been shaped by his presence, guided by his example, and supported by his steady commitment to their growth not only as students, but as young men of faith and character.
What makes this recognition so meaningful is not just the longevity of his career, but the way in which Mr. Gargano has lived it. Day in and day out, often without recognition, he has embodied the very mission of Catholic education: forming minds, nurturing hearts, and building a community grounded in faith, respect, and compassion.
Like Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton herself, whose legacy reminds us that education is an act of love and a ministry of hope, Mr. Gargano has approached his work not simply as a profession, but as a vocation.
His impact cannot be measured just in his years of service, but rather in the relationships he has built, the lives he has influenced, and the countless moments where he has made a difference, whether through encouragement, guidance, or simply being present when it mattered most.
Mr. Gargano's dedication to Xaverian education and to the mission of Catholic education stands as an example to all of us. He has helped shape this community into what it is today, and his influence will continue to be felt for years to come.
On behalf of the entire Xavier community, students, faculty, staff, alumni, and families, congratulations on this well-deserved honor. We are grateful for your service, proud of your accomplishment, and blessed to call you one of our own.
