For just the third time in Xavier’s 69-year history and the first time since 1998, Xavier High School has Co-Valedictorians! Congratulations to Patrick Manning and Sean O’Sullivan on earning this distinction.
Different paths. Different passions. Same relentless pursuit of excellence.
It is rare air. The kind reserved for students who not only master the classroom, but leave fingerprints on the community around them. The kind of achievement that says something not only about intelligence, but about discipline, humility, leadership, and the quiet work done long after the lights go out.
In the fall, Patrick Manning will attend Yale University, where he plans to double major in applied mathematics and creative writing. Sean O’Sullivan will attend Villanova University, where he plans to study history and political science.
Sean’s resume reads like a life lived at full speed.
He served as Senior Patrol Leader for his Scout Troop, earning the rank of Eagle Scout along with 28 merit badges. At Xavier, he has been Editor in Chief of The Kestrel, National Honor Society President, Blood Drive Program Leader, Delegation President and Legislative Delegate for Model Congress, a Senior Leader and Mentor for Empower Leadership, a Faith Formation Confirmation Catechist, Peer Minister, XBSS attendee, and Mass Cantor.
And yet, those who know him best speak first not about accomplishments, but character.
“He is a student I wish I had more time with to get to know better,” School Counselor Sara Randazzo said. “He is an old soul and wise beyond his years. Just like most everyone else, my main comments on Sean are just how amazed I am at what he is able to do with his time and how he executes everything, seemingly with ease. He has so many accomplishments under his belt that it could be intimidating to peers, but his humbleness is disarming. I have never met a student more well-received by an entire school community than Sean.”
Patrick’s impact has been quieter in volume perhaps, but no less profound.
A member of the National Honor Society, English Honor Society, Computer Science Honor Society, Spanish Honor Society, Mu Alpha Theta, and the Math Team, Patrick has also served as a Peer Minister and member of the Head of School Advisory Board.
His brilliance is undeniable. But those around him point to something deeper.
“Patrick Manning is one of the most exceptional young men I have had the privilege to work with,” Director of School Counseling Beth Pattavina said. “His intelligence, creativity, humility, and genuine kindness make him a natural leader and someone who leaves a lasting impression on everyone he meets. Patrick’s talents are extraordinary, but it is his character and the way he treats others that truly set him apart.”
For nearly seven decades, Xavier has measured success not only by achievement, but by the kind of men its students become.
This year’s co-valedictorians embody that mission in full.
Two Falcons. One historic moment. And a future that feels impossibly bright.
