Your gifts of support lift each and every young man enrolled here. No matter what a student studies, or what sport or club he enjoys, your gifts make it happen every day. Thank you for being a part of this extraordinary community of alumni and family. Merry Christmas and best wishes for a joyful New Year.

Message From Our Alumni President
Merry Christmas. I hope you find joy during the holidays spending time with friends and family. I hope to clear my head, wind down, and focus on the simple things that meant the most during the year. We have a busy few months coming up beginning with the return of the Kohs Tournament Dec. 27-28 (more on that below). Please join the tradition if you can. Speaking of tradition, your Xavier Alumni Association is bringing back traditions so be on the lookout. We will need your help recasting the Career Fair and Houli Day as Xavier institutions. You are already invited to be a part of these events, and we look forward to seeing you!
Brian Farrell '86, Alumni Association President

Around The Campus
The following Xavier students made Southern Region High School Festival: Damian Bianchi (French horn), Nick Casserino (trumpet), and Liam Sheeley in voice (tenor). The event is scheduled for Jan. 14-15 at Maloney High School in Meriden. It is run by the Connecticut Music Educators Association.
Andy Wyzykowski, Director of the Physical Plant, was the recipient of the Theodore James Ryken Award, given to an adult member of the community and voted on by the faculty and staff. It honors someone’s excellence and commitment to the Xaverian mission. The award was given Dec. 3 at the Mass for the Feast of St. Francis Xavier. “This year’s winner is a man who is seen and rarely heard,” Headmaster Dave Eustis said when announcing the winner. “He is someone who essentially keeps this school running on a daily basis. When it is cold he makes you warm. When something breaks he fixes it. In over 20 years serving the Xavier community nobody has ever heard him complain a single time. He cares about Xavier as much as anyone."
Brother John Sullivan, C.F.X., was honored on Dec. 3 for his 60 years as a Xaverian Brother. "Brother John has remained steadfast in his commitment to his vocation as a Xaverian Brother," Principal Brendan Donohue said. "Today we are grateful for his expertise in the History and Latin classrooms, his care of the beautiful flowers and plants around our campus, his work in the school store and on the yearbook, his commitment to our retreat programs and mission trips, his sense of humor, and his love of Boston sports. A number of years ago on this day, he received the Ryken Award. It was said of him that day that he can always be seen with a camera because he never wants the focus to be on himself, but on others. Today Brother, we turn the focus on you for just these few moments and thank you for all you do for our school."
Xavier placed eight athletes, all seniors, on the Connecticut High School Coaches Association All-State teams. Cross country: Eamon Burke, Brody Santagata; Soccer: Brady Stevenson, Dylan Misenti, Ryan Gerry; Football: DJ Wright, Joe Barbagallo, Max Wojtusik
Each December the National Honor Society leads a drive to raise money for St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. The goal was $3,000, and this year that was surpassed.

Remembering Our Brothers
This account is taken from the Xaverian Menology, a book of deceased members of the Xaverian Brothers. This month we look at Brother James Kelly, C.F.X., who died in December 2011.
Bro. James M. Kelly. Born: Worcester, Mass., June 30, 1947. Died: Baltimore, Md., Dec 3, 2011: "At sunrise on the Feast of St. Francis Xavier, after 'fighting the good fight,' as he said in his last letter to the Mount St. Joseph Community, Brother James Kelly was called home to God surrounded by his sister, Pat, his Brothers, and his friend and Mount St. Joseph Principal, Barry Fitzpatrick. Brother James died in his 64th year and his 46th year in religion." Bro. Kelly was the head of three Xaverian Brothers Sponsored Schools, Xavier in Middletown, St. Xavier in Louisville and Mount St. Joseph in Baltimore.
