Dear Xavier Families,
As of this afternoon, April vacation officially begins, and it could not be more well deserved. Our students and faculty have poured themselves into this school year. Long days turned into meaningful moments. Lessons became growth. Challenges became opportunities. In classrooms, on fields, on stages, and in quiet corners of campus, there has been a steady commitment to becoming better together.
We hope this upcoming week offers a chance to rest, recharge, and reflect on all that has been accomplished.
A reminder that classes will resume on Monday, April 20.
Earlier this week, we gathered as a community for our annual Easter Mass, celebrated by Father Tom Franks '94. It was a full circle moment rooted in faith, brotherhood, and service. To welcome back an alumnus who has dedicated his life to his vocation is a powerful reminder of what Xavier helps to form. We are incredibly proud of the many alumni who have answered the call to the priesthood and who live lives of purpose and service that reflect the very mission of our school.
This week was also filled with memorable moments across campus.
On Wednesday, we drew the winning ticket in our $25,000 Cash Raffle. Congratulations to the holder of Ticket No. 22. Thank you to everyone who participated. Your generosity makes a direct and lasting impact on our students and their experience at Xavier.
Thursday evening, the campus came alive once again as we hosted the annual Xavier Mercy College Fair. With more than 100 colleges and universities represented, our students had the opportunity to begin envisioning what comes next. Conversations were had, possibilities were explored, and the future felt just a little closer.
Finally, this week marks National Assistant Principals Week, a time to recognize three extraordinary leaders who give so much of themselves to Xavier each and every day: Mr. St. George, Mr. Gargano, and Ms. Drewry.
In the life of a school community, there are individuals whose impact cannot be measured in a single moment. Their influence is built over time through quiet conversations, thoughtful decisions, and steady acts of care. Our assistant principals are exactly those people.
They are present in the moments that matter most and in the ones that often go unseen. They listen. They guide. They support. Each brings a unique voice and strength to our community, yet all are united by a shared commitment to serving others.
To Mr. St. George, Mr. Gargano, and Ms. Drewry: thank you. Thank you for your tireless commitment, your steady leadership, your compassion, and the countless ways both seen and unseen that you strengthen and uplift our entire school community. Xavier is a better place because of you. On a personal note, I truly could never thank you enough for all that you do for me and this amazing community. I see and feel every day the love you have for Xavier and everyone that is in it. Brother Ryan is smiling down on the three of you today and every day because “taking care of the boys” is at the heart of everything you do and every decision you make on a daily basis. I am truly blessed to serve alongside you and call you not only my colleagues but more importantly my dear friends.
They build relationships that last. They create an environment grounded in trust and respect. They lead in a way that reminds us what it truly means to care for a community.
Their impact is felt every day in both the big moments and the small ones that, over time, make Xavier feel like home.
We are deeply grateful for all that they do.
Wishing you and your family a peaceful and restful Easter break.
I wanted to share an excerpt Sunday's Gospel from John 20: 29.
Blessed are those who have not seen and yet have come to believe.
That line carries more weight the longer you sit with it. It’s not just about Thomas. It's about all of us, especially in a place like Xavier.
At its core, this is a statement about faith without proof. Thomas needed to see, to touch, to be certain. Most of us do. But Jesus turns the focus outward, to the generations who will not have that moment and who will still choose to believe anyway.
And that is where Xavier lives.
Xavier is built on things you cannot always measure or see right away. A freshman walks through the doors in September, nervous and unsure, still figuring out who he is. Four years later, he leaves as something different. More confident. More grounded. More aware of the man he is becoming. You cannot always point to the exact moment it happened. You just know it did.
That is belief.
It is in the teacher who stays after school because he sees something in a student that the student does not yet see in himself. It is in the brotherhood that forms quietly, in classrooms, on fields, in hallways, until one day it is unshakable. It is in the idea that what we are building here matters, even if the full impact will not be understood for years.
At Xavier, we ask our students to believe in more than what is right in front of them. To believe in their potential. In each other. In something greater than themselves.
They will not always see the outcome immediately.
But they believe anyway.
And that is where the blessing begins.
God Bless!
Mr. Cerreta '01 President, Xavier High School
