Dear Xavier Families,
It was a short week on campus after the winter storm that affected Middletown and surrounding towns on Sunday, but it was a meaningful one nonetheless. With the abbreviated schedule, we have moved our Catholic Schools Week celebrations and activities to next week so we can fully celebrate what makes Xavier special, our community, our mission, and the values that shape our students each day. Stay tuned for updates and content that highlights our students, our faith, and the enduring values of Catholic education. It is going to be a great week.
For those of you who receive the Hartford Courant, you may have seen a wonderful article and advertisement featuring Xavier that ran on Sunday. We are grateful for the opportunity to share the Xavier story with a wider audience and to showcase the strength of our community.
The second semester officially began on Wednesday, and our students, faculty, and staff are energized and ready for the second half of the school year. This is always a moment of renewal, a chance to reflect on the fall, set new goals, and continue growing in mind, body, and spirit.
Report cards will be made available online this evening at 6:00 p.m. Please refer to the message from our Associate Presidents below for details on how to access student reports and for additional information. As always, we encourage families to reach out to teachers and counselors with any questions or to discuss next steps.
This evening, we are excited to welcome members of the Class of 2030 to campus for a pizza party and our Future Falcon Night at the varsity basketball game against Guilford. It is always a joy to welcome prospective Falcons and their families to Xavier and to give them a glimpse of the community they may soon call home.
Financial Aid applications for the 2026-27 academic year are due today, January 30. You will find the application link below. If you have any questions or need assistance, please do not hesitate to reach out to our Finance Office. We are here to help.
Thank you for being such an important part of the Xavier community. We look forward to a full and vibrant week ahead.
I wanted to share this Sunday's Gospel from Matthew 5: 1-12.
When he saw the crowds, he went up the mountain, and after he had sat down, his disciples came to him. He began to teach them, saying:
"Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Blessed are they who mourn, for they are comforted. Blessed are the meek, for they shall inherit the land. Blessed are they who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be satisfied. Blessed are the merciful, for they will be shown mercy. Blessed are the clean of heart, for they will see God. Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called children of God. Blessed are they who are persecuted for the sake of righteousness, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Blessed are you when they insult you and persecute you and utter every kind of evil against you because of me. Rejoice and be glad, for your reward till be great in heaven. Thus they persecuted the prophets who were before you."
In this week's Gospel passage, Jesus describes the attitudes and actions that lead to true happiness and holiness. He blesses humility, compassion, integrity, mercy, and the courage to stand up for what is right, even when it is difficult. Rather than praising power or success, Jesus lifts up those who seek God, serve others, and choose peace and justice.
At Xavier, the Beatitudes reflect the values we strive to instill in our young men every day. To be poor in spirit is to remain humble in success. To hunger and thirst for righteousness is to pursue excellence with integrity in the classroom, on the field, and in service. To be merciful and clean of heart is to treat others with respect and compassion. And to be peacemakers is to lead with courage, kindness, and faith in a world that needs both.
The Beatitudes remind us that the true measure of a Xavier education is not just what our students achieve, but who they become.
God Bless!
Mr. Cerreta '01 President, Xavier High School
