Xavier High School rising senior Benjamin Romero was recently recognized for his outstanding leadership and service at the 82nd Annual American Legion Boys State program, held in late June at the University of New Haven.
Romero, one of approximately 125 high-achieving juniors selected from across Connecticut, played an active and integral role throughout the weeklong program. His contributions earned him a notable leadership position as he was elected to the office of Comptroller of Boys State, distinguishing himself among a talented group of student leaders.
In a letter addressed to Xavier President Nicholas Cerreta ’01, David Greenleaf, Chairman of Connecticut American Legion Boys State, praised Romero as “an outstanding young man” and commended Xavier for its continued support of the prestigious civic education program. “The level of excellence in the program is only as great as the level of excellence of the Boys Staters who come to us,” Greenleaf wrote. “We hope that you will continue to send us boys of such high caliber.”
Boys State is one of the nation’s most respected educational programs in civics, aimed at developing tomorrow’s leaders through participation in a mock government experience. Attendees are selected based on their academic achievement, character, leadership ability, and interest in government.
Xavier High School congratulates Benjamin Romero on this remarkable achievement and is proud to support programs like Boys State that develop leadership, character, and a commitment to public service.
