Xavier Indoor Track & Field Team Wins SCC Championship!

The Xavier High School indoor track & field won the 2026 Southern Connecticut Conference (SCC) Championship on Saturday! The Falcons won their fourth SCC title in the last five years thanks to totaling 70 points as a team.

Xavier topped Hamden and defending champions Lyman Hall by 12 points.

The Falcons were dominant in the relay events, winning three of the four races. The Xavier quartet of senior John Simpson, senior Justin Torres, junior Brendan Russ, and senior Xavier Laudati finished first in the 1600m sprint medley with a time of 3:42.99.

The Xavier 4x400m relay of Simpson, Torres, Russ and freshman Zander Laudati won thanks to crossing the finish line at 3:31.48.

Senior Mike Fusaro, senior Landon Rubano, sophomore Jackson Gould, and junior Peter Torello finished first in the 4x800 relay with a time of 8:19.07.

Sophomore Nolan O’Connor had a strong day, coming in second place in the 3200m (9:50.58) and third in the 1600m (4:32.58). Classmate Holden Hines finished third in both the 3200m (9:52.31) and the 1000m (2:37.64).

Senior James Adu added a third-place finish in the 600m with a time of 1:27.24 for the Falcons.

The title marked the 70th overall SCC Championship for Xavier.
