Xavier Wrestling Wins Sixth Straight CIAC Class L State Title!

The Xavier High School wrestling team delivered another dominant performance on the mat on Saturday, capturing their sixth consecutive CIAC Class L State Championship! The Falcons amassed an impressive 256 points thanks to producing four individual champions and three runner-ups. Xavier topped second-place Fairfield Warde by more 72 points.

Senior Braylon Gonzalez won at 144 thanks to pinning Cheshire’s Robert Perez. He became the first wrestler in program history to be a four-time state champion.

Freshman Josh Perez won at 106 with a tech fall and classmate Trey Beam was the individual champion at 113 with a 5-3 decision over Newtown’s Owen Blair.

Junior Zack Dixon was Xavier’s fourth individual champ with a tech fall over Middletown’s Joshua Ramos at 120.

The victory was the eighth state championship for the wrestling program and the 79th total for Xavier High School athletics.
