A thousand shots can make for a long afternoon in the gym. A thousand shots for something bigger than basketball can make every one of them matter. On Sunday, August 9, Xavier students Noah Jones ’27 and Luke Thompson ’28 put their endurance, determination and love of the game to work at A Shot For Life, a cancer research fundraiser at Joel Barlow High School in Redding.
For the Falcon duo, the final number on the scoreboard mattered far less than what each shot represented.
A Shot For Life brought together basketball players committed to using the game they love to make a difference in the fight against cancer.
Over the course of two hours, Noah and Luke each attempted more than 1,000 shots, testing their endurance and determination while raising money and awareness for an important cause.
Their impact went well beyond the basketball court.
Together, the two Falcons raised more than $1,200, thanks in large part to the generosity of family members, friends and supporters who contributed in their names. Noah and Luke are incredibly grateful to everyone who supported their efforts and helped make their participation in the event so meaningful.
The generosity extended well beyond their individual fundraising efforts. In total, this year’s A Shot For Life event raised more than $32,000 for cancer research.
For Noah and Luke, it was an opportunity to represent Xavier in a way that reaches beyond wins, losses and basketball. It was a chance to put in the work for something bigger than themselves.
More than 2,000 shots. More than $1,200 raised.
And two Falcons doing their part in a much larger fight.
