Special thanks to those of you who have already donated this year and are included in our latest totals.

We still need many more contributions from those of you that have yet to make a financial commitment to Xavier High School this fiscal year. Any gift you make will not only move us closer to our financial goals but will also move us closer to our alumni participation goal of 15%.

A SHOEMAKER'S TALE COMES TO MIDDLETOWN!

Shoemaker's Tale

Alumnus Steven Scionti '81 returns to Middletown, CT, to perform his deeply personal, critically acclaimed one-man show, Hear What's in the Heart: A Shoemaker's Tale, on May 8th and May 9th at 7:00 PM at the Mercy High School Auditorium. Doors open at 6:00 PM.

This beloved show celebrates the life and legacy of Scionti's grandfather, Angelo Morello, who was the longtime owner of Angelo's Shoe Repair on Main Street in Middletown. Set against the backdrop of a post-funeral gathering to celebrate the life of his grandfather, Scionti paints a theatrical family portrait in a series of humorous and poignant vignettes transforming himself into various family members and friends, jumping back and forth through time to affecting moments on his journey into adulthood. Eight characters are portrayed in all, including his grandfather; his father Sebastiano; his mother Rosetta; brother Antonio; uncles Amadeo and Manny; Jerry, the local neighborhood pizza-maker; and Brother Connelly, a teacher from Xavier High School.

A Shoemaker's Tale has been performed to sold-out audiences across the country. While rooted in the story of an Italian-American family, the show resonates universally, exploring themes of family, identity, resilience, and the courage to follow one's passion.

$40 from each ticket will go directly to Xavier High School, making this special hometown performance both an evening of powerful storytelling and a meaningful opportunity to support the Xavier community.

YOUNG ALUM GOLF OUTING SET FOR SATURDAY, MAY 16

portland

A brand-new golf event for our younger alumni will be held at Portland Golf Course on Saturday, May 16. Any Xavier graduate from the Class of 2000 to the Class of 2025 is invited to participate.

To encourage more younger alums to become engaged with their alma mater, we are presenting this event as a fun-raiser, not a fundraiser. The fee covers our cost per golfer for the day. We hope to make a few bucks via a raffle and other contests at the outing, but not from the registration fee. Any profits realized from the event will go to the Financial Aid Fund at Xavier.

Registration will begin at noon followed by a shotgun start at 1:00 p.m. The fee is $100 which includes golf, cart, and ongoing lunch and beverages from noon to 4:00 at the Gazebo (on 10th tee).

Because there was tremendous interest shown by young alums when we conducted the survey in the Alumni E-News a few months ago, we are expecting the slots to fill up quickly. To closely monitor registrations so we don't exceed capacity, they will only be accepted by calling the Alumni & Development Office (860-346-7735, Ext 737).

Please don't wait! Call today and register your foursome to be assured of securing a slot in the first ever Xavier Young Alums Golf Outing!!

WINTER SPORTS UPDATE - WRESTLING TEAM EXCELS

2026 Class L State Champs!

Wrestling: Coach Mike Cunningham's team won the SCC Championship for the 9th straight year. They also won the Class L Championship for the 6th straight year and the State Open for the 5th straight year. This weekend, the Falcons have eight wrestlers competing in the New England's and Coach Cunningham believes they have a good chance to win that competition as well. Senior Braylon Gonzalez became Xavier's first four-time CIAC State Champion!

Basketball: The team finished the regular season with a 13-7 record. They were the 4th seed in the SCC tournament and lost in the quarter finals to Fairfield Prep. They are seeded #16 in the Division II State Tournament and will have a home game on Friday against #17 Fairfield Warde. The winner of that game will advance to the second round and play top-seeded Windsor on Monday.

Indoor Track and Field: The team won the SCC Conference Championship this year for the 4th time in the last 5 years. They finished 5th in the CIAC Class L Championship Meet. The 4x200 relay team set a new school record at the New England Meet with a time of 1:32.01.

Ice Hockey: The Falcons finished the regular season at 12 - 8 and were the #3 seed for the SCC Conference Tournament. They lost to #2 seed Notre Dame West Haven by a score of 4-1. They are the #5 seed in the CIAC Division I Tournament and have earned a first-round bye. They will play Simsbury in the quarterfinals on Saturday, March 14th.

Swimming: The team finished 6th in the SCC which is a little better than where they finished the year before. The team has shown improvement over the last two years, and the coaches feel good about the progress of the program. They have the CIAC time trials on Saturday, March 7th at Cornerstone Aquatics and then the CIAC Finals on Tuesday, March 10th.

Rifle: The Rifle Team finished 4th in their State Championship competition. They had three marksmen recognized for their achievements in the High School League at that event; Luke Beasley finished 3rd, Trevor Snow 7th, and Enzo Dimauro 8th.

East Egg Hunt

We are pleased to announce that we are re-instituting the Easter Egg Hunt for children of Mercy and Xavier graduates. It was always a well-attended event when held back in the 1990's and we hope it promotes greater engagement from younger alums and their families.

The event will be held on the Saturday before Easter from 10:00 AM to Noon. There is no admission charge. Please register the names of family members attending by Wednesday, April 1. Grandparents are welcome to attend as well. A post-hunt reception will be held in the cafeteria for all who attend this special event.

It will be held rain or shine. We will move the event from outdoors to the gym if the weather does not cooperate.
