Stretch Run Needed Similar to Golden Tempo's at the Kentucky Derby

If you watched the Kentucky Derby on May 2, you saw Golden Tempo go from last to first over the last 300 yards to win the classic by a nose. We are looking for a similar stretch run from our alumni during May and June (our last 300 yards) as we strive to reach our goal of 15% participation for the 2025-2026 fiscal year.

If you have yet to donate this fiscal year, please do so before June 30. We are currently at 12% participation and need about 250 more donors to reach 15%. Achieving that level of participation from our alumni base helps Xavier High School to qualify for numerous foundation grants and corporate support. Your tax-deductible gift, regardless of amount, may be the one that puts us over goal and could result in a major contribution from one of those entities. It also puts us in the top 10% of alumni support to Catholic high schools in the entire country!

You can donate by sending it to XHS in the return addressed envelope you received with the 2025-2026 fiscal year appeal letter, by going on the Xavier High School website, or by clicking on the link below.

We look forward to announcing that the goal of 15% was achieved in the June issue of the Alumni E-News.

Your Alumni & Development Team,

Rich Feitel            TJ Kronenberger '04        Suzanne Berry

Shoreline Alumni Social to be Hosted Again at The Woodwinds

Woodwinds!

Last year the most well-attended alumni social held was at The Woodwinds in Branford. Alums Tony Suppa ’94, owner and manager of this popular wedding and events venue, and Mike Picard ’83, property and facility owner, have graciously agreed to host it again this year.

Please join many fellow alumni by attending this special event on Thursday, June 11 from 6:30 to 9:00 p.m. A great night to reminisce with classmates and other Xavier alums, and you can’t beat the hospitality and food anywhere! The Woodwinds is located at 29 Schoolground Road in Branford.

The Woodwinds will provide delicious food, and the Alumni & Development Office will pay for your first drink. Cash bar after that.

Please click on the link below to register. Facility capacity is limited so we will accept the first 150 that register. Sorry. Limited to alums only.

Spring Sports Update

Golf!

Golf - The team has a record of 7-1. They recently won the Wildcat Invitational Tournament for the 3rd straight season. They are the favorites to win the SCC Championship which will take place on Tuesday, May 26th at The Farms Country Club. They are also favored to repeat as Division I State Champions for the third consecutive year. The State Championship takes place on Monday, June 8th at Tallwood Country Club in Hebron.

Baseball - The team currently has a record of 10-4. They have their annual pink game at Palmer Field on Friday, May 8th vs Shelton. The team has already earned a berth to the SCC Conference Tournament starting on May 23rd and the CIAC Class L State Tournament starting on June 1st.

Lacrosse - The team is 3-7. They have been plagued by injuries during the first half of the season and are just getting back to having their full team available for competition. They hopefully will make a strong push during the second half of the season to quality for the conference and state tournaments.

Outdoor Track & Field - To date, the team is having a great season. Last week, junior Brendan Russ broke the school 400-meter record with a time of 48.96 seconds. The team expects to compete for an SCC Championship on May 26th at Amity High School. They also have an excellent chance to be Class MM State Champions when they compete on May 31st at Willow Brook Park.

Tennis - The team currently sits a #2 in the CIAC Class L Division with a record of 7-2. The team has a match against Hamden on Friday, May 8th. If they win that match, they will win their division. They have qualified for both the SCC Tournament as well as the CIAC State Tournament. The SCC event will begin on Saturday, May 23rd and the State matches on Monday, June 1st.

Sailing - The sailors have had a great season of competition. They have been competing against Guilford, Branford, Choate, and the Sound School, and still have a race coming up with Salisbury. Coach Mark Kondracky has seen significant improvement in the team’s sailing skills throughout the season.

Volleyball - The team has had a rough season. With only one senior, most members are new to the sport and very young. Despite their record, the boys have stayed positive and are working to get better every day. The support of the fans at home games has been inspiring.

Ultimate Frisbee - After a slow start but through dedication and hard work, the team has turned it around and now has a record of 10-9. At the Middletown Invitational, they went 4-1 to place second and at the Falcon Invite, they played well and won the tournament with a record of 3-0. They won their quarterfinal game in the State Tournament but lost in the semifinals. They are hoping for a strong showing in the New England Tournament on May 16th.

Creating A Waiting List to Play in the Golf Classic

More alums have shown an interest in playing in the Xavier Alumni Golf Classic every year. Unfortunately, we are limited to 144 golfers or 36 foursomes and usually fill the event with alums or sponsors that have been participating for years. However, there are always a few individuals or groups that can’t participate for whatever reason which creates openings. For that reason, the committee has decided to accept requests this year to be placed on a waiting list.

The date of this year’s Classic is Friday, September 11, at Portland Golf Course. If you would like to get on the waiting list, please call Suzanne (860-346-7735, Ext. 737) or TJ (Ext. 733). If there are openings, they will be filled with individuals or foursomes in the order in which they were received.
