Letter from the Alumni & Development Team: Rich Feitel, Greg Jaskot and Suzanne Berry

We just closed the books on a very successful fiscal year in the Alumni & Development Office.

Thanks to the generosity and support from many of our alumni, parents, students, faculty, staff, and friends, we raised record proceeds of $1,472,000 during the 2023-2024 fiscal year! This figure includes over $120,000 from the Annual Student Walkathon, $204,000 from the Annual Xavier Alumni Golf Classic, $564,000 from the Annual Fund, and more than $537,000 added to our Endowed Scholarship Funds.

To those of you who supported any of our fundraising efforts and helped us exceed our financial goals this year, we extend our sincere appreciation. Your contributions have made it possible to enhance many academic, athletic and campus ministry programs, make improvements to facilities, and provide tuition assistance to many young men who otherwise would not be able to afford a Xavier High School education.

With your continued support and the added support of many other individuals who love and cherish this fabulous high school (especially our alums), we hope to reach the $2,000,000 mark in 2024-2025!

Xavier Golf Classic Memorializes Frank Rudini and Rusty Larson ’68, Honors Wrestling Coach Mike Cunningham

Every year, the Xavier Golf Classic Committee selects special members of the Xavier community to memorialize and honor. This year’s event will be held in memory of former teacher and Assistant Football Coach Frank Rudini, who passed away in March of this year, and alumnus John “Rusty” Larson ’68, who died suddenly after attending his 55th Reunion celebration last September. The honoree will be long-time faculty member and head wrestling coach Mike Cunningham, who has led his teams to 13 Southern Connecticut Conference (SCC) titles, six state championships, and four State Open championships. Cunningham has also mentored a back-to-back National champion in 2023 and 2024 and he was named to the Connecticut chapter of the National Wrestling Hall of Fame in 2022.

All were selected because of their loyal and passionate commitment to Xavier High School over the years, and the positive impact they have had in helping to mold “men of Xavier.” If you would like to personally secure a sponsorship in memory of or in honor of any of these special men, click here to view the Sponsorship Form for the event.

The Search for Missing Alumni

The Xavier Alumni & Development Office is beginning an all-out effort to find alumni from every class for whom we have no contact information. We would like to be able to reach them with this E-Newsletter and provide regular information regarding reunions and special alumni events. XHS has never been notified of their death, so we presume all are still living.

If you know the whereabouts of any of the alums from the Classes of 1967, 1968 and 1969 listed below, please contact Suzanne Berry, Rich Feitel or Greg Jaskot in the Alumni & Development Office (860-346-7735, Ext. 737).

We will publish a list of as many Classes as space provides in each issue of the E-News going forward.

Grand Reunion to be held at XHS in October

Class reunions are very important events to conduct for high schools. They give alums an opportunity to re-connect with classmates, reminisce about the good old days, and for Alumni Offices to continue to build relationships with graduates.

Because it’s so difficult to create committees to conduct them (especially at an all-boys high school with graduates scattered all over the United States), we decided to simplify that task this year. Xavier High School will host a Grand Reunion on Friday, October 4th for the Classes of 1969, 1973, 1974, 1979, 1984, 1989, 1994, 1999, 2009, 2014 and 2019. The cafeteria will be sectioned off for each Class and food and festivities provided for all. An email blast went out recently to all members of those classes with a link to register.

We hope that you will take advantage of this opportunity to reunite with your classmates and celebrate a special reunion with many of them. If you would like to form a committee to plan something additional for that Saturday or Sunday, you still have that option. At least you’ll have one opportunity to gather with old friends and visit the campus where you spent the four most formative years of your life.

XAVIER HIGH SCHOOL PRAYER - read at the close of school each day

Loving Father,
We ask you to protect the students, faculty and staff at Xavier High School.
Guide us to salvation by following the example of Jesus Christ, your Son.
Inspire us with your grace, to seek both academic success and spiritual wisdom as we use your gifts and talents in service to others.
Help us to find the strength and passion to be leaders and pioneers like Theodore James Ryken, the Xaverian Brothers and those who founded our school.
May we, in turn, accept the challenge to spread the Word of God and make the world a better place for all people.
We ask this, through Christ, our Lord. Amen
Saint Francis Xavier pray for us.
