Technology

At Xavier, we ask our students to take the next step and prepare themselves for what comes after high school.

Whatever that may be.

So what does that mean when it comes to technology and its many facets?

It means setting our students up for success.

Starting with the Class of 2027, students enrolled at Xavier will be receiving a school-issued laptop. These  Windows PC laptops will expand student digital capabilities, ensure equitable access to computer technology, and allow teachers to use 21st century learning strategies in the classroom.

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact the Xavier Directory of Educational Technology Mr. Kelsey Doherty ([email protected]) or Director of Systems Technology Mr. Timothy Kramar ([email protected]).

  • Ensures that all students have access to the same device capabilities.
  • Reduces distractions in the classroom.
  • Expand student digital capabilities to allow for new learning technologies in the classroom.
  • Devices include touchscreen and scribing capabilities that facilitate digital note taking and homework completion.

What is our BYOD (Bring Your Own Device) plan?

Every school day, Xavier students are required to have a computer available to help them as they take on the challenges ahead.

So what do we recommend? The options are varied, but we do have a couple suggestions!

In general, MacBooks are discouraged due to limited support in the building and the possibility of a different experience with software being used. However, they are not restricted. Devices that are not permitted are iPads, Android tablets and Chromebooks. Student computers must run either Mac OSX or windows.

Here are the required technology options:
  1. Processor
    1. Intel i5 or AMD Ryzen 5
  2. Hard Drive
    1. 128GB of storage space minimum, 256GB preferred
  3. Memory/RAM
    1. 8GB minimum, 16GB preferred
  4. Software
    1. Antivirus enabled (Windows Defender is allowed)
    2. Microsoft Office (provided by Xavier)
    3. No active VPN
    4. Windows cannot be in S mode

Xavier sophomores, juniors and seniors and their parents have to sign an agreement to bring their own devices to schools. To get the form, please click this link
